RPGBoard has enjoyed a long life, which started out as a offshoot of WWWBoard in 1997, and developed into a fresh alternative to the bland, boring, commericial messages boards. It was designed to be a Swiss-army-knife of message board scripts, with a personality for both its administrators and posters.
Unforunately, WWWBoard is no longer the de-facto standard, and the technology of future message boards have caught up past RPGBoard. I've simply not had the time to maintain RPGBoard all by myself. There are still plenty of unique features in RPGBoard which still haven't been implemented in other boards, but I feel that it's easier to morph another MB script with the features of RPGBoard, rather than the other way around. With that in mind, I am discontinuing support and development of RPGBoard.
I'd like to thank the beta testers, translators, and especially the regulars at the Shrine, who've most I've known online for 7-8 years. Everybody's support promoted me to implement features, fix bugs, and keep me going.
However, all is not finished. RPGBoard is still the best threaded-style message board script, but the shortfalls of the format have forced people to veer towards a semi-threaded (or non-threaded, as most people call it) format, despite having problems of its own. I intend to address those problems, as a long-time administrator, regular poster, and web programmer. I also want to give people the option to download a message board with personality, instead of a web script designed for posting messages. Message board scripts are designed to promote a community, and that means giving an identity and features to the people that post, not just the web site itself.
I've installed phpBB to work as my base. I'll be working on a series of RPGBoard mods for phpBB, which will implement the same functionality as RPGBoard's features. They can be installed seperately or together, and I think I'll host a mega-patch on this site. My aim is not to go bat-shit crazy with mods like phpBBFM, nor is it going to be a bare-bones format of vanilla phpBB, but a happy medium with its own flavor.
Currently, you can still download the old version of RPGBoard here, which also includes a RPGBoard-to-phpBB convertor for your previous posts.
